Most of us spend the majority of our days sitting. We drive to and from work, sit at a desk or computer, come home and sit in front of the TV for hours on end, and then go to bed and sleep. Being inactive is hazardous for your health. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and other health problems. Beside getting in a workout 3 to 4 times a week you need to be more active. There are some things you can do to increase your activity level. Make sure you move, when on the phone, stand as you’re talking. Sit on a stability ball instead of a chair, this will keep you moving and helps your core. Take water breaks often. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. At lunch go for a walk. Park further away when you’re at work or shopping. When you get home cut the time you spend watching TV or surfing the web. Now that summer is approaching do more things outside. Go for family walks, or bike ride. Go to the park. Walk your dog instead of letting him out in the back yard. Do some gardening or outside work. Delayed gratification is something our society does not value. Are you hungry? Just pop your meal in the microwave and a couple of minutes later you have dinner. Want something you cannot afford, no problem, just put on your credit card and you can take it home with you today! But the ability to delay what you desire in order to reach your goal is a mental strength many of have lost the ability to do. Will power, is hard, but you can do it!
